PHOENIX (October 2, 2018) – As with any first-time event, there is much uncertainty and excitement in its outcome. Civitan Foundation started it’s planning for its Dance-A-Thon in February 2018, and before the planners knew it, the party started at noon on Friday, September 28.
Civitan’s Dance-A-Thon was designed as a fundraiser as part of the year-long 50th anniversary celebration for Civitan Foundation, a non-profit with a mission of delivering superior life experiences, programs and services to enhance the quality of life for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
The goal of the event was to create an activity where the members of Civitan would actively participate and that meant dancing! The Dance-A-Thon was 12-hours of dancing, music, food, face painting, games and plenty of action. More than 150 dancers, guests and vendors participated in the event, held at Gateway Academy at 3939 E. Shea. The dance raised about $20,000. The money raised at the Dance-A-Thon fundraiser will help purchase needed equipment and supplies for the services Civitan provides for more than 1,200 people each year throughout the state of Arizona.
Since 1968, with the opening of Camp Civitan in Williams, Arizona, Civitan has enhanced the quality of life for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Today, Civitan Foundation provides services throughout the Phoenix metro area, Williams and Maricopa. Services in Williams include the 15-acre fully accessible Camp Civitan, an adult day program and Civitan on 66 Boutique western-themed thrift store.
