PHOENIX (July 18, 2018) – 12-hours of dancing, music, food, face painting, games and plenty of action. It may sound like one of the valley’s music festivals, but it’s all going to happen at Civitan Foundation’s 1st Annual Dance-A-Thon on Friday, September 28 from 12 p.m. to midnight. The dance will be located at Gateway Academy, 3939 E. Shea Boulevard in Phoenix.

The Dance-A-Thon is a fundraising event to celebrate the organization’s 50th Anniversary and help Civitan expand on the mission of delivering superior life experiences, programs and services to enhance the quality of life for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Registration for participating in the Dance-A-Thon is on Civitan Foundation’s website, www.CivitanFoundationAZ.org/Dance. The Dance-A-Thon is open to individuals, couples and teams. Participants may either dance for the fun, sponsor a dancer or a team, or help fundraise on behalf of Civitan.

“The idea of having a Dance-A-Thon was a no-brainer,” said Chief Executive Officer Dawn Trapp. “Our members love to dance, so we designed an event that we all like to do, will be fun and hopefully generate a lot of support from our community for people with different abilities.”

The money raised at the Dance-A-Thon fundraiser will help purchase needed equipment and supplies for the services Civitan provides for more than 1,200 people each year throughout the state of Arizona.

Since 1968, with the opening of Camp Civitan in Williams, Arizona, Civitan has enhanced the quality of life for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Today, Civitan Foundation provides services throughout the Phoenix metro area, Williams and Maricopa. Services in Williams include the 15-acre fully accessible Camp Civitan, an adult day program and Civitan on 66 Boutique thrift store. In Phoenix, programs include the Civitan Village Adult Life Learning Center, the Respite Ranch, Flerish Design & Resale thrift store and Group Supported Employment programs. Civitan also offers an adult day program in Maricopa, as well Home & Community Based services statewide.

In addition to participation in the event, the Dance-A-Thon is an opportunity for businesses to form teams for group teambuilding or as an organizational community fundraiser. College groups, such as sororities and fraternities, as well as high school groups and leadership groups are also encouraged to register for the Dance-A-Thon.

Registration fees for Civitan Foundation’s 1st Annual Dance-A-Thon is $35 for each dancer, $60 for a couple and $250 for teams of 6 – 10 participants.
